Market Cap Market Capitalization is the overall value of all coins/tokens that have been mined or issued until now and are in circulation (not locked). It's similar to the stock markets' Free-Float Capitalization.

Market Capitalization = Circulating Supply x Current Price.

Fully Diluted Market Cap FDMC is the Market Cap if the Maximum Supply of a coin/token was entirely in circulation.

FDMC = Max Supply x Current Price.

Note: if Maximum Supply is not available or limitless, Total Supply is used to calculate the value. FDMC will be undefined and marked as "--" if no form of Supply is available.

The Basics of Kaspa

Kaspa (KAS) is a decentralized, open-source layer one cryptocurrency project that implements the blockDAG protocol to achieve scalability, speed, and security. Kaspa was named after the Aramaic word for silver. It also follows the principles of the precious metal, having less value than gold (Bitcoin) but being more circulative and better for payments.

The Kaspa team identified two key issues that will be critical over the next ten years of crypto: speed of in-ledger transaction inclusion and control over transaction ordering. To solve these problems, Kaspa was created with several innovative technologies designed to improve the network's speed and reduce block times as low as internet speeds allow while maintaining order.

Kaspa is an open-source project that no central authority has control over, it is entirely a community project. However, Kaspa was founded in 2022 by Yonatan Sompolinsky, whose Ghost protocol paper was cited in the Ethereum whitepaper and formed the basis of Kaspa.

How Kaspa Functions

Like the Bitcoin network, Kaspa uses the Proof-of-Work (PoW) mechanism for transaction validation. However, Kaspa modifies the technology slightly, implementing kHeavyHash encryption instead of Bitcoin's SHA-256. By taking this approach, Kaspa introduces a weighting function that improves security and ensures forward compatibility with photonic miners.

Transactions on the Kaspa network are validated by people solving cryptographic equations using computational resources. Being fully decentralized, anyone can participate in Kaspa validation and help secure the network. However, Kaspa has stated that it's highly inefficient to mine KAS with typical hardware; instead, specialized ASIC miners are required.

Unique Aspects of Kaspa

As a one-of-a-kind blockDAG, Kaspa has many unique aspects. However, the most notable might be its block times. While Bitcoin takes around ten minutes to create a single block, Kaspa takes just one second on average to create a new block. Moreover, the network is designed in a way that could facilitate the creation of 10 or even 100 blocks per second in the future.

The creators of Kaspa believe that time-to-inclusion (how long it takes for the first confirmation) will be critical to the user and developer experience. By using the blockDAG structure, the GHOSTDAG consensus mechanism, and building a scalable ordering system, Kaspa can facilitate near-instant inclusion times and an average final confirmation time of just 10 seconds.

Kaspa blockDAG

It's important to note that instead of a traditional blockchain, Kaspa utilizes Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAGs), similar to Hedera Hashgraph. Using a DAG that removes blockchains' linear transaction ordering structure, Kaspa can generate blocks extremely quickly without sacrificing decentralization.

Kaspa is the first blockDAG cryptocurrency project to be launched. The network can offer an extremely high one-per-second block rate while maintaining security due to its implementation of the blockDAG structure and Kaspa's GHOSTDAG consensus mechanism (which allows blocks created in parallel to be ordered in consensus).

Kaspa Price History

Kaspa closely follows Bitcoin's ethos, which can be seen in how the project was launched. Instead of hosting an Initial DEX offering (IDO) or Initial Coin Offering (ICO)

Kaspa launched its Mainnet in 2022 and allowed people to acquire tokens through mining or by purchasing the asset directly. KAS initially traded for $0.0001838, so early investors would be in around 111,450% profit based on today's price of $0.12

Kaspa's blockDAG and GHOSTDAG technology quickly drew the attention of investors, causing KAS to more than 10x and hit $0.001985 by August 2022. Over the remainder of the year, KAS grew steadily, ending the year at $0.004807.

Throughout early and mid-2023, KAS performed exceptionally well, climbing to $0.03663 by April and $0.05019 by August. However, toward the end of the year, the token surged significantly due to a market-wide demand and increased adoption of the Kaspa network, resulting in KAS hitting $0.1452 in December 2023.

While 2024 has been somewhat volatile for Kaspa, the project has grown substantially. It enjoyed a run to $0.1873 in February before falling back to around $0.10. Today, KAS has just achieved an all-time high of $0.2075.
